    'Atropurpurea Nana' is a deciduous dwarf shrub, compact and bushy in habit, with spiny stems bearing purplish-red, obovate leaves, becoming brighter in autumn. Flowers small, pale yellow, followed by deep red berries in fall, whch are attractive to birds and often remain on the spiny stems after the leavs have fallen.

    Japanese Barrbery is very adaptable and an excelent choice as a single speciman plant or massed in beds, borders, as an informal screen or hedge. Great for rock garden too !

    This shrub will grow in average, well-drained soil and produce a vibrant leaf colour when positioned in areas of full sun, however it's tolerant of partial shade and leaves will be greener.

    This shrub is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring. 

    The Japanes barberry is a hardy tree that can remain container grown and requires minimal maintenance and pruning.
